College : Figuring it out
I applied to college with the hopes of becoming a kung fu kicking English teacher who also happened to be a nurse on weekends. I never really took time to consider how unrealistic this was, or how this restless lifestyle would not fit me. Since I’m a lover of everything, pinpointing a passion was difficult for me. In my first 2 years of college, I had intended...

High School Dreams
In high school, English was my favorite subject. English introduced to me different perspectives of looking at the world. My sophomore English teacher, Ms. Ficociello, encouraged individualism and higher-order thinking. “Transcend materialism!” “Transcend the commoners!” “Befriend a tree!” were a few of her phrases she spouted each day, phrases which I dutifully followed....

Early Passions
My earliest accomplishment happened in 2nd grade when I’d successfully spelled the word “photosynthesis”. I don’t know why I committed to learning this word or why it stuck in my memory. Maybe because it was because how weird it was spelt, or how other-worldly it sounded to the ears of a second grader. I remember feeling so proud of myself, showing off the new word whenever I...

Nostalgia
What despairs me is when I look at something and cannot understand it. At a Van Lang party last weekend, there was a moment when several of the teachers played instruments to old Vietnamese songs. While I enjoyed listening to this semi-foreign music and being amazed by the levels their voices reached, I could not help but feel sad at the same time.
I fear for the loss of language in the future....
Merry Christmas Everyone!
So I came across a poem while lesson planning.
The Brain—is wider than the Sky—
For—put them side by side—
The one the other will contain With ease—and You—beside— The Brain is deeper than the sea— For—hold them—Blue to Blue— The one the other will absorb— As Sponges—Buckets—do— The Brain is just the weight of God— For—Heft them—Pound for Pound— And they will differ—if they do— As Syllable from Sound—

I miss writing.
I miss writing. I miss having a sense of connectedness. I miss having the feeling that my day was a story unravelling from the moment of dawn, and properly ended by the stroke of midnight.
That voice that once guided me is now absent, and I find myself fumbling throughout the day. My eyes are opened wider, but I cannot see. The sense of fear I have is even greater. Each step is made without a...
This makes me so sad.

Mood: Grateful.
Every time I feel stressed out or down,my friends and family are always there for me. It’s the little things they do that make a difference in changing my day and perspective around. For that, I’m thankful. Thankful that they—their lightness—saves me from being consumed by my work and tunnel vision.

Press Pause.
So yesterday, I had to give a presentation to my teaching methods class. It was an introductory day lesson plan, and things were getting off to a good start. I knew where I wanted to go, but I guess I kind of rushed myself in the process.
What I’m thinking: In being adamant about finishing the presentation, I had ignored the audience’s response. I forgot to help them get there (my...
